JOSHUA DUNCAN

Joshua was a very affectionate boy from the day he arrived and he always loved to climb up on my chest for petting and his trademark loud purring while steadily swishing his little 3/4 bobtail.

This past week he barely ate and grew weaker each day while waiting… too long… for appointments with a specialty vet center hours away from us.

By midweek he could no longer jump all the way up into my lap, so I would help him up to assume his position on my chest.

Each day as we sat together his purring grew softer and his little tail swished slower and slower.

Friday night the Dallas surgical center refused him as a patient via an after-hours email, then early Saturday morning when on my chest he did not purr at all and his little 3/4 bobtail swished for the last time.

If only we had discovered this sooner and could have moved faster toward treatment. If only.

Josh arrived 03/16/2021 sporting a yellow collar and the loudest purrs you ever heard.

Josh ran quickly through 9 cat lives,
his sonorus purrs obscuring death’s rapid
footsteps
,
until all that remain
are his
indelible pawprints, forever on my heart.
