Saving Susie Q’s Eye

Susie Q is the 1st cat rescued from the abandoned cat colony that launched the Duncan Home For Wayard cats, so she has a special place in our heart even though she is untouchable. Her 3 kittens that arrived with her have all turned out very affectionate.

Susie Q developed a severe viral eye infection that has compromised her left eye.

She was transported to and examined by a vision specialist out of state who prescribed multiple expensive medications that will hopefully reverse this condition.

She was boarded and treated at Rose City Animal Clinic for one week and they ceased treatment.

We are going to try another sedated treatment with the vision specialist in Shreveport.

Her care costs are substantial and accumulating daily.

Your generous contribution will help Susie Q fight to keep her sight and her eye.

Description

Susie Q is the 1st cat rescued from the abandoned cat colony that launched the Duncan Home For Wayward cats.

She arrived feral with 3 kittens, Bandit, Ebony, and Heart. Bandit has been adopted, and Ebony and Heart are still seeking homes. Susie Q and her kittens have been under our care since 05/05/21.

She remains untouchable although she has become more approachable and no longer runs and hides when we are present. She is a beautiful cat.

She has already been to a vision specialist on Dec 12 who prescribed meds for her. It took 2 weeks to get one med because it is specialty and costly. Even after the med arrived, I have been unsuccessful in administering it because she is VERY resistant to being handled.

I have a squeeze cage designed for this situation, but she is small and because it is her eye that we need to treat, she can still move her head and we have had no luck getting meds in the eye.

So three vets later this beautiful feral baby is now at Rose City Animal Clinic for the next 14 days in hopes they can administer the meds and that doing so helps her eye improve.

The vision specialist said her eye still works and she can still see, but the surface is clouded with excessive blood vessel growth from a virus. The specialty med is supposed to reverse that.

We will see… I just hope that Susie Q will, too.
